Historic Key-Oh hotel building in Burns Lake BC

A Burns Lake Landmark

The building that now houses Key-oh Hotel has been part of Burns Lake’s story for generations. Built in the late 1940s, it was originally known as the Tweedsmuir Hotel, a modern fireproof hotel created by local entrepreneurs during a time of growth in the Lakes District.

Construction began in 1948, as the region expanded alongside major industrial projects in the area. When the hotel opened in 1949, it quickly became a central gathering place in the community, known for its restaurant, lounge, and comfortable guest rooms.

For decades, the building has stood as a familiar landmark along Highway 16, welcoming travellers, workers, and families passing through Burns Lake. Today, that tradition continues as Key-oh Hotel carries forward the spirit of a classic northern stop—simple, welcoming, and part of the local community.
